PETALING JAYA: Raising the nation’s palm oil biodiesel blend to 20% from the current 10% would cost the nation about RM643 million, says plantation and commodities minister Johari Ghani.
Speaking in Parliament today, he said such an effort would require an investment in infrastructure the government is not ready to fund.
Currently, the government requires 10% palm-based biodiesel in most places nationwide.
Johari said the 20% biodiesel mandate is currently only implemented in Labuan, Langkawi and Sarawak (except for Bintulu).
“Our engagement with industry stakeholders shows they want the government to finance this, but we are not ready to fund it,” CNA quoted him as saying.
