PETALING JAYA:
A man was found dead on the tracks at the Titiwangsa LRT station in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

The Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department said an emergency call was received at 8.38am and teams from the Sentul and Titiwangsa fire and rescue stations were dispatched to the scene.

“A man, who is a person with disabilities (OKU), was found lying on the tracks.

“The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by health ministry officials,” it said in a statement today.

The department said a preliminary investigation suggested that the man, believed to be blind, lost his balance and fell onto the tracks before being struck by a train.

“Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident, including reviewing railway operation records from the time of the accident,” it said.

In a separate statement, Rapid Rail announced that train services at the PWTC, Titiwangsa, Sentul and Sentul Timur LRT stations have been temporarily suspended following the incident.

“As a safety precaution, the power supply at the station has been deactivated to facilitate emergency operations by the police, fire and rescue department, and ambulance personnel at the scene.

“Alternative transport services, including free shuttle buses, have been activated to assist affected commuters,” it said.
