PETALING JAYA:
EPF has sought to clarify its investment income and dividend payout in 2023, after MCA president Wee Ka Siong questioned its profits from the sale of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) shares that year.

The statutory body said its total gross investment income in 2023 was RM66.99 billion while its net investment income was RM63.48 billion.

It said this was consistent with the figure provided by finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan in the Dewan Rakyat.

“There has been no mistake, misrepresentation, or attempt to withhold information as claimed,” it said in a statement.

On the other hand, EPF said, it recorded a total profit of RM102 million from its sale of MAHB shares in 2023, including capital gains and dividends generated by internal and external fund managers.

“The previously cited price range of RM5.40 to RM7.36 per share was contained in a question posed by an MP. A full review of all 2023 transactions confirms the verified price range was RM6.80 to RM7.70 per share.

“The earlier figure of RM100.7 million referenced in discussions excluded some dividends received by external managers and has since been reconciled,” it said.

EPF said the profit from the MAHB shares contributed to its higher dividend payout of 5.5% for conventional savings and 5.4% for shariah accounts for 2023, compared with 5.35% and 4.75%, respectively, in the preceding year.

It maintained that the figures it had announced were accurate and complied with strict financial reporting standards, while its investment decisions underwent rigorous due diligence.

“EPF remains committed to transparency and welcomes constructive dialogue with lawmakers, stakeholders, and the public to ensure its policies continue to serve the best interests of both the nation and its members,” it said.

Yesterday, Wee urged EPF or the finance ministry to clarify the statutory body’s total profits from selling its MAHB shares in 2023.

He said there were several news reports that misreported EPF as making RM63.48 billion in profits that year from the sale of MAHB shares alone.
