Fakhruddin Fikri, 35, simply hopes that what happened to his son, Fahmi Hafiz, would not happen to any other child, Harian Metro reported.
Fakhruddin, a food deliveryman, also said he does not blame anyone for the incident which led to Fahmi’s death.
“I do not want (to take legal action against anyone), but we have been advised to do so because (Fahmi had choked on the candy) on the school grounds.
“My wife and I accept this fate that has been destined for our family,” said Fakhruddin, who has another child.
Fakhruddin and his wife, Nuraini Isa, 37, laid Fahmi to rest at the Kampung Permatang Binjai Muslim cemetery today, joined by 150 others, including family members, local residents, as well as teachers and friends of Fahmi.
Fahmi, a Year 4 pupil, had choked on a gummy candy he bought outside SK Sungai Dua in Butterworth on Tuesday. He was left in critical condition after the incident and died in hospital at 11pm yesterday.
An autopsy confirmed that he died from brain damage due to prolonged oxygen deprivation as a result of choking on the candy.
The health ministry has since banned the sale of the candy as it lacked a warning on choking hazards. The ministry said it would seize the candy and may take further action against sellers.
