PETALING JAYA:
The immigration department has launched an investigation after the discovery of 12 foreign passports in the possession of one of its officers at KLIA Terminal 2.

In a statement, the department’s director-general Zakaria Shaaban said the passports were found with the officer at the airport’s immigration operations centre on Jan 1. A police report was filed on Jan 7.

Zakaria said an investigation was initiated by the department’s integrity division for KLIA, while the officer had been transferred to the KLIA immigration depot pending the outcome of the probe.

“However, the officer has yet to report to the new post,” he said.

Zakaria said the department had a zero-tolerance policy for violations of integrity and would not protect any officer involved in misconduct.

“Disciplinary action, including dismissal, will be taken in accordance with the existing laws if the officer is found guilty,” he added.
