KLIA Terminal 3 only after Terminal 2 reaches full capacity, says Loke

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says Terminal 2 is still operating under its maximum capacity of 45 million passengers a year.

The long-term development plan of KLIA includes expanding the capacities of Terminals 1 and 2, said transport minister Loke Siew Fook.
PETALING JAYA:
There are no plans yet to commence the development of a KLIA Terminal 3 since Terminal 2 has yet to reach its maximum capacity, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

While constructing a Terminal 3 remains part of the long-term development plan of KLIA, Loke pointed out that this plan includes expanding Terminals 1 and 2.

“At the moment, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd is studying the need to embark on the first phase of Terminal 1’s expansion. This proposal includes the need to accommodate increased traffic in terms of passengers, cargo and aircraft.

“At the same time, Terminal 2 is still operating under its maximum capacity of 45 million passengers per annum (mppa).

“Therefore, MAHB is of the view that Terminal 3 would only need to be considered once Terminal 2 reaches its maximum capacity of passengers,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.

Loke was replying to Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai), who asked about the status of the ministry’s plans to build a third terminal.

He said KLIA’s long-term development plan included increasing Terminal 1’s capacity from 30 mppa currently to 59 mppa, and Terminal 2’s from 45 mppa to 67 mppa.
