KUALA LUMPUR:
Health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad wants hospitals to create a conducive work environment to address bullying cases involving trainee doctors and newly recruited nurses.

He called for all government medical facilities to establish supportive, empathetic, fair and respectful workplaces.

“These efforts are crucial even though we already have specific measures and workplace bullying guidelines for health ministry staff,” he said during a parliamentary question-and-answer session.

He was responding to a question from V Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) on the health ministry’s efforts to tackle bullying against trainee doctors.

Dzulkefly also said that the 3,316 graduates registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) in 2024 have been appointed as house officers and were placed in training hospitals nationwide to undergo housemanship.

He said the health ministry aims to place 3,000 house officers in 49 training hospitals across the country this year.

“For the first quarter of 2025, the health ministry appointed 1,114 UD9-grade medical officers on a contract basis to undergo housemanship in 49 training hospitals nationwide,” he added.
