PETALING JAYA:
An aide to DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has apologised for heckling the head of the party’s Penang chapter, Steven Sim, at an event on Saturday night.

According to Kwong Wah Yit Poh, Tan Khong Chong issued a brief statement today expressing regret over his actions and the ensuing “developments” his heckling had caused.

“Regarding the incident that occurred between Penang DAP chief Steven Sim and me at the appreciation dinner for Lim Kit Siang held in Penang and the subsequent developments, I publicly apologise to him and the party,” he was quoted as saying.

Sim has downplayed the incident as merely “a storm in a teacup”, though it has led to calls for disciplinary action against Tan.

The Penang DAP chief also said he has known Tan for the “longest time” and described him as a loyal DAP member.

Sim added that he did not want to prolong the issue.

Tan reportedly hurled a vulgar insult at Sim while the latter was greeting supporters at the dinner and called him a traitor.

The man had approached Sim and berated him for nearly 10 seconds and also accused him of attempting to undermine Guan Eng.
