The man pleaded guilty after the six charges were read to him before judge Surita Bidin in the sessions court here.

Surita sentenced him to six years’ imprisonment on each count, to be served concurrently from the date of his arrest on Feb 9.

The man was accused of five charges of sexually assaulting the girl at a house in Seremban 2 between 6.30am on Feb 3 and 8.30am the following day.

The charges were framed under Sections 14(a), 14(b) and 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for up to 20 years imprisonment and whipping, upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 15B(a) of the same Act with threatening the girl to engage in sexual activity at the same location at about 6.30am on Feb 4.

According to the facts of the case, the girl had been left under the care of the accused and his wife while her mother was attending to her husband, who was receiving treatment at Serdang Hospital for heart problems.

During mitigation, the man told the court he was remorseful, had suffered a minor stroke, and was supporting two wives and two children.
