PETALING JAYA:
Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) says there is sufficient liquefied petroleum gas cylinder volume to meet the demand in the state, and assured consumers of no increase in prices, following the recent disruption to its operations.

The state’s sole gas aggregator said it has activated its business continuity plan by sourcing LPG supply from Kuching and Sepanggar Bay, following the recent landslide at the Pusaka Integrated Resources LPG bottling plant in Bintulu, which led to operations being temporarily halted, Borneo Post reported.

Petros also claimed that the recent floods in the state had affected key operational and transportation routes, causing delays in delivery to parts of Sarawak.

“Petros is actively collaborating with the relevant authorities, logistics partners and local distributors to expedite restocking and deliveries, with the situation expected to be resolved as soon as safely possible,” the company was quoted as saying.

It said it was increasing its LPG transportation capacity from Kuching and Sepanggar Bay, as well as establishing depots for additional storage capacity in Miri.

Petros also denied claims on social media that the additional transportation costs were being passed down to consumers.

“We are bearing all transportation costs to prevent any price increase,” it said, and welcomed consumers to report any increase in charges to PetrosNiaga’s Customer Service at 1300-88-2122 for immediate action.

On Monday, Sarawak utility and telecommunications minister Julaihi Narawi said immediate steps had been taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders in Sarawak, following a landslide at the Bintulu LPG Terminal.

Earlier today, an aide to Sibu MP Oscar Ling claimed Petros failed to ensure a stable supply despite its market monopoly.

The aide, Irene Wong, called for the state government to reconsider the competitive structure of the LPG market and allow multiple suppliers to coexist.
