KLIA deputy police chief Albany Hamzah confirmed that the couple had completed their medical evaluation at the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang yesterday.
He said the criminal investigation division of the KLIA police headquarters had taken the two into custody on the same day, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“A case has been opened under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code for causing annoyance to others through obscene acts in public, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour,” he was quoted as saying.
On Monday, KLIA police chief Azman Shari’at said the couple was removed from the plane after they caused a disturbance on board.
He said security personnel intervened after the couple, who appeared disoriented, made other passengers uncomfortable with their erratic behaviour.
The couple was taken to the police station for questioning, but refused to cooperate and continued to act aggressively.
The police then sought assistance from the health ministry after suspecting that the couple might be mentally impaired. Sedatives were given to calm them down after a quick medical check-up was carried out.
They were then sent to the hospital for further observation.
Azman was also reported to have said the couple tested negative for drugs.
