PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested two senior officials of a sports association in Johor over the alleged misappropriation of RM1.3 million and the submission of false claims totalling RM27,000.

According to a source, the suspects, in their 60s, were detained yesterday evening when they arrived at the MACC Johor office to give their statements.

The source said the first suspect, who is the association’s president, is believed to have misused funds between 2023 and 2025.

“He is suspected of abusing his position by instructing the honorary secretary to transfer part of the RM1.3 million in contributions received from the youth and sports ministry and private entities, intended for the association’s activities, from the association’s account to bank accounts belonging to him and his child,” the source sad.

The source said the second suspect, a former honorary secretary, is believed to have submitted false claims between 2023 and 2024 for training payments amounting to RM15,000 and sports equipment subsidies worth RM12,000 to the state sports council, despite the programmes never taking place.

Johor MACC director Azmi Alias confirmed the arrests. The suspects have been remanded for five days until Feb 17.
