PETALING JAYA:
A 51-year-old man has been charged in the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court with murdering his mother-in-law in Taman Sri Skudai, Johor, earlier this month.

Zuraidi Zakaria nodded after the charge was read before magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab, but no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court.

Zuraidi was charged with killing Epah Daik, 79, at a house on Jalan Tembaga Merah, Taman Sri Skudai, at 4.20pm on Feb 5, Utusan Malaysia reported.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nik Noratini Nik Azman while the accused was unrepresented.

The court fixed April 28 for mention.
