In a statement, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said insight from countries such as Japan, Singapore, and Finland could help in the design of a more effective strategy to curb homelessness in the capital city.
“The integrated and effective management models from these countries could serve as references to be adapted in Malaysia’s context,” he said.
Lim also said JKM could collaborate with higher education institutions to carry out in-depth academic research to identify the root causes of homelessness in Kuala Lumpur and devise effective solutions to address the issue.
He was responding to a Harian Metro report which noted the unhygienic conditions caused by homeless people in Kuala Lumpur.
Lim said unhygienic conditions tarnish the image of the capital city and raise concerns about cleanliness, public health, and the quality of life for Kuala Lumpur residents.
He said that as the nation’s capital, Kuala Lumpur should set an example as a clean, safe, and comfortable city to live in.
“Immediate and effective actions must be taken to ensure the well-being of Kuala Lumpur residents and maintain the nation’s image in the eyes of the world,” he said.
