PETALING JAYA: A 24-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend have been charged in the Butterworth magistrates’ court with murdering the man’s mother at an apartment unit in Bagan Ajam, Penang.
J Ambrose and S Litha nodded after the charge was read before magistrate Aini Adilah Faizal, but no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court.
The couple was jointly charged with murdering J Virginie, 60, at the apartment unit between 6.43pm and 8.37pm on Jan 31, Utusan Malaysia reported.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code is punishable by death or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment, and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction
Deputy public prosecutor Nurameera Shahrul Azrin led the prosecution while the accused were unrepresented.
