PETALING JAYA:
Four industrial areas in Penang will suffer a two-day water cut in April.

In a statement, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said that most industrial consumers in Bayan Lepas, Perai, Bukit Minyak, and Batu Kawan will be affected.

PBAPP said that around 337,000 consumers will be affected by the water supply disruption on April 25, which is expected to last up to 48 hours.

It said the water disruption is to facilitate the final connection of Penang’s new RM8.7 million Sungai Perai crossing pipeline (SP-RCP) at Ampang Jajar, Seberang Perai Tengah.

“When completed, the 1.35m SP-RCP will support a maximum treated water pumping capacity of 247 megaliters per day (MLD).

“It will enable safer and more efficient pumping of a higher volume of treated water from the Sungai Dua water treatment plant to meet future water demand on the mainland and Penang Island,” it said.

As of Feb 1, the pipeline had reached 70% completion and was progressing as scheduled.

PBAPP also said that it would provide a detailed map of the affected areas, site work updates, and reminders for consumers to store water closer to the disruption date.

“The actual dates and times of the scheduled water supply interruption are subject to the completion of all necessary preparatory site works as scheduled,” it said.
