PETALING JAYA:
Veterinary officers in Penang have not found any cat carcasses as claimed in a report filed with the police yesterday.

State veterinary services director Dr Saira Banu Rejab said that a team had visited the scene but did not find any cat carcasses as reported.

The police report said the complainant found 10 cat carcasses wrapped in black plastic bags dumped at a large roadside bin in Jelutong. FMT reported yesterday that the police and veterinary officers had visited an animal shelter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals following the allegations.

Saira said the police referred the case to her department on Friday morning.

“We immediately went to the location to conduct an investigation, but no cat carcasses were found there. Therefore, we are unable to perform post-mortems to determine the cause of death, but investigations are continuing,” she said when contacted today.

Police said yesterday that a 49-year-old man had filed a report on the alleged discovery of cat carcasses in the bin. A short video clip has been widely shared showing what appeared to be more than 10 dead cats wrapped in black plastic bags in the bin.
