PETALING JAYA:
The High Court here today allowed the prosecution’s application to have the charges faced by Yusoff Rawther, a former research assistant to a politician, to be tried together.

Justice Jamil Hussin made the ruling after deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman informed the court that both cases involved the same witnesses, Bernama reported.

“The application for both cases to be tried together is granted, and the trial is scheduled for five days from April 7 to 11,” said Jamil, who also set March 11 for case management.

Yusoff, 32, was represented by lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali during today’s proceedings.

He is accused of trafficking in 305g of cannabis, allegedly found in his vehicle near the surau at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters at 10.15am on Sept 6, 2024.

He is charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a sentence of life imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.

Yusoff also pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing two imitation firearms by the roadside near a condominium block on Jalan Bukit Kiara at 9.25am the same day.

The charge is framed under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a maximum one year in prison, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.
