PETALING JAYA:
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) says construction work at the J Satine development in Wangsa Maju can only resume after it is satisfied with the reports to be submitted by engineers.

In November last year, a stop-work order was slapped on construction of Block C of the apartment complex following an explosion at the site.

DBKL said it had set up a committee to review the safety and stability of the site and the surrounding areas, based on reports to be submitted by certified independent engineers, as well as consultant engineers appointed by the developer.

“The independent engineers submitted the first interim report on Dec 30. However, the mayor was not satisfied with the report as it lacked a detailed analysis and did not meet the required standards.

“To date, DBKL has yet to receive the complete reports from both the consulting engineers as well as the independent engineers,” it said in a statement today.

However, it said it had allowed soil investigation work to commence from December around the outer sections of the building to gather new data for the engineers’ review.

“The mayor will only consider the resumption of construction works once she is satisfied with the submitted reports,” DBKL said.

In November, residents of the nearby Wangsa Sari People’s Housing Project filed complaints with DBKL over an explosion at the construction site, purportedly due to a structural failure of the building.

Checks by DBKL found that the incident had caused cracks on the shear wall, pillars and floors of units on the eighth floor and above at the block under construction.

DBKL ordered the contractors to appoint an independent engineer to conduct a structural integrity check on the entire J Satine development.

It also ordered contractors to conduct rectification work based on the report’s recommendations, saying the stop-work order would remain in place until this was completed.
