Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the man was among four people injured in the Jan 24 incident.
“He died at Serdang Hospital last night,” he told reporters in Gombak today.
Previously, Hussein said one person was killed and four others were injured in the shooting incident. Three of the injured were treated at Serdang Hospital, and the fourth at Klang Hospital.
He said all five men were believed to have been aboard a boat that rammed an MMEA vessel conducting patrols in Tanjung Rhu. The MMEA members fired in self-defence after two of the men, armed with parangs, attacked them.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, with the MMEA personnel involved in the shooting relieved of their duties temporarily.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960 for the unlawful discharge of firearms, Section 186 of the Penal Code for the obstruction of officials in the course of their duties, and Section 26a of the Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 for the smuggling of migrants.
Hussein also said police have arrested two other Indonesians, in their 30s, suspected of being aboard the boat and fleeing the scene after the shooting.
He said the duo were arrested during a recent operation at Pulau Carey, and added that the investigation paper has been handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
On Monday, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said it was possible the police investigation into the shooting could turn into a probe into drugs or firearms trafficking.
He said the Indonesians were all undocumented, and police had arrested a man suspected of being involved in trafficking migrants.
