Terengganu police chief Khairi Khairuddin said an inspection led to the discovery of 11 RX-Z motorcycles, four motorcycle chassis, and six motorcycle engine components that were believed to have been brought into the country from Thailand without valid documents.
“The suspect was arrested at his house, which had been turned into a workshop,” he said in a statement. The suspect has a criminal record for abduction, possession of stolen goods, and narcotics, said Khairi.
The Yamaha RX-Z, a classic motorcycle with a two-stroke engine, was introduced in Malaysia in 1985 and became popular among young motorcyclists, and was one of the models associated with the Mat Rempit phenomenon. Production of the bike stopped in 2011.
However, asking prices for used RX-Z models have skyrocketed, fetching between RM18,000 and RM80,000 for a 1998 model advertised in January in Melaka.
