PETALING JAYA:
Umno is mulling amending its electoral process and increasing the age limit for members in the Puteri wing to 40 from the current 35, party vice-president Khaled Nordin said.

In a Facebook post, Khaled said these two changes were part of a broader structural change Umno intends to make in view of the current challenges.

“Umno is always open to examining suggestions brought forward through motions submitted,” he said after meeting with Negeri Sembilan Umno leaders.

Khaled said these proposals have been discussed at the state level and will now be reviewed by divisional committees across the country.

“Feedback and recommendations from these divisions will then be deliberated by the party’s central leadership.”

Khaled added that these improvements were crucial to ensure the party remains strong and relevant.

In July last year, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported as saying that the party was prepared to look into proposals to amend regulations on the party election system.

He said this when asked to comment on claims that Umno was planning to revert to its previous system where delegates would choose the party’s top office bearers.

The party polls are expected to be held next year.
