PETALING JAYA:
A temporary reduction in speed limit will be enforced on federal roads nationwide from Jan 28 to Feb 2 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

In a statement, works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the speed limit on federal roads would be lowered from 90km/h to 80km/h to minimise road accidents during the six-day period.

He also said non-critical road construction and maintenance works would be temporarily halted to prevent disruptions to traffic flow.

“Emergency works that need to be expedited for the safety of road users will be planned accordingly,” he said.

“If necessary, alternative routes will be provided to ensure smooth travel for users to their destinations.”

He said the initiatives were part of the six-day Op Bersepadu joint operation involving agencies such as the police, road transport department, Malaysian Highway Authority, and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research.
