PETALING JAYA:
The aerotrain service for Kuala Lumpur International Airport is expected to resume its services by the second quarter of this year, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd managing director Izani Ghani said.

Izani said all testing for the aerotrain system should be completed by April, The Edge reported.

“We are confident (that it will be) operational by the second quarter,” he said at a briefing today.

On Wednesday, transport minister Loke Siew Fook expressed dissatisfaction with MAHB, citing inefficiencies and delays in addressing key issues such as the aerotrain replacement project at KLIA.

The aerotrain service had been suspended since March 2023. Loke said that despite the aerotrain being under MAHB’s purview, he had been receiving daily complaints about the service.

He said the aerotrain system was still being tested by the contractors, with no firm date on the project’s completion date.

Last June, MAHB said the aerotrain replacement project at KLIA was slated to be completed by Jan 31 this year, ahead of the project’s original planned completion date.

Izani admitted that the Jan 31 deadline was “overambitious”, adding that compliance with technical requirements can sometimes lead to delays in the processes.

MAHB had said the deadline was finalised through a contract signed on June 14, 2024 between Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd and a joint venture consisting of IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd.

MAHB said this contract would advance the original completion date of March 31, 2025 by two months.
