PETALING JAYA:
A Chinese tourist died after being struck by a tree branch at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) in Sandakan, Sabah, this afternoon.

Harian Metro reported that the 74-year-old man was leaving the RDC with four family members when a branch from a large tree fell and struck his head.

Sandakan police chief Fuad Malek said the man was rushed to the Duchess of Kent Hospital’s emergency and trauma department but was confirmed dead at 4.28pm.

“At this stage, the case is classified as sudden death,” said Fuad.

Last year, two Chinese tourists were killed by a fallen tree at the car park of a museum in Penang.

Liu Zhu, 69, and his daughter, Liu Xinxin, 36, were in a vehicle on the premises of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion when they were crushed by a tree which fell from an adjacent property into the mansion’s driveway.
