PUTRAJAYA:
Police officers have responded positively to a new requirement that they have a BMI of less than 28 to be considered for promotion, says home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Saifuddin said the initiative aligns with efforts to maintain physical health and discipline within the country’s largest enforcement agency.

“The response to this has been good,” he said at a press conference here today.

“BMI is not just about physical fitness but also about the discipline of every member of the police force.”

He said this after checking preparations for the Asia International Security Summit and Expo (AISSE 2025) to be held from tomorrow to Jan 22 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain, who announced the new requirement on Thursday, said it was one of the criteria the police have added to ensure a stricter promotion process.

In a Berita Harian report, Razarudin said the requirement will ensure the health and skills of police personnel and their ability to serve the nation well.
