Chinese tourist dies in hit-and-run by motorcyclist in Sabah

Police say the victim was crossing the road at the traffic lights near the Putatan public works department office when he was knocked down.

Police are looking for a motorcyclist who is believed to have rammed into a Chinese tourist while he was crossing a road in Penampang, Sabah, two days ago.

Penampang police chief Sammy Newton said they were notified of the incident at about 1.30am on Jan 15 after it occured at the traffic lights near the Putatan public works department office.

The victim was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu but died later from head injuries, Sabah Media reported.

“The motorcyclist involved was nowhere to be found. Police are tracking down the individual,” he was quoted as saying.

He urged witnesses to assist in the probe.
