PETALING JAYA:
The meat used in the pre-packed chicken ham and cheese sandwich sold by Shake and Bake Café is certified halal, says the supplier.

In a statement, the supplier listed the ingredients used in the sandwich as bread, cheese and chicken slices.

“Shake and Bake confirms that the chicken ham used in its sandwiches has halal certification from the Islamic development department (Jakim).

“We also confirm that at noon on Jan 10, 2025, officers from the federal territories branch of the domestic trade and cost of living ministry, together with Jakim officers, came to our factory, which is currently under investigation.

“We promise to give the ministry and Jakim our full cooperation in this investigation,” said the company.

KK Mart was previously reported as having suspended all business dealings with the supplier of the pre-packed chicken ham and cheese sandwich sold at one of its outlets at Universiti Malaya.

The convenience store chain said it had also halted the supply of the product by Shake and Bake to all its outlets.

Jakim had previously confirmed that the sandwich in question, along with the company manufacturing it, did not have halal certification.

“Therefore, the company’s act of printing the Malaysian halal logo on the product label constitutes a violation under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, specifically the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011,” it said in a statement on Facebook.

“Legal action has already been taken by the domestic trade and cost of living ministry.”
