3 claim trial to possessing child porn, sexual grooming

PETALING JAYA:
A 29-year-old man has been charged in the special court for sexual crimes against children in Putrajaya with possession of child pornography, sexual communications with a child and sexual grooming.

Separately, two men were charged with possession of child porn, Bernama reported.

Restaurant worker Mustafa Kasim, claimed trial to two counts of sexual communications with a male child. He is accused of committing the offence via WhatsApp on Dec 5, 2022, in Kota Damansara, Selangor.

The charges were framed under Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for a maximum three years in jail upon conviction.

Mustafa also pleaded not guilty to a charge of grooming the child on the same date and place. The offence is punishable by up to five years in prison and whipping, if convicted, under Section 12 of the same Act.

He also claimed trial to a charge of possessing child porn. He is accused of committing the offence at an apartment unit in Kota Damansara on Dec 20, 2022.

The charge under Section 10 is punishable by a maximum five years’ jail, a fine of no more than RM10,000, or both, if convicted.

Judge M Kunasundary granted bail at RM12,000 for all charges, but Mustafa did not pay the amount and was sent to Sungai Buloh prison.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhana Sahat prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Suraj Singh.

In a separate court, company manager Tan Lye Synn, 41, and Phoon Mun Tat, 39, claimed trial to possession of child porn.

Tan is accused of committing the offence at Jalan 17/33, Seksyen 17, in Petaling Jaya on Dec 23 while Phoon is charged with committing the offence at Jalan PJU 10/18A, Sutera Damansara in Petaling Jaya on the same date.

They were allowed to post bail at RM8,000 each.
