“The ministers from Umno are ready to cooperate with the High Court if required,” party secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said after the Supreme Council meeting tonight.
Asyraf said Najib’s case was among the several issues raised at the meeting.
On Monday, Najib obtained leave to begin judicial review proceedings to compel the government to place him under house arrest in accordance with an order in an addendum to the pardons board’s commutation of his sentence in February last year.
The government has disputed the order, saying no order on house arrest had been made by Istana Negara after the pardons board’s meeting.
Asyraf said the party reiterated its appeal for Najib to be granted a full pardon. On Monday, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made an appeal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to grant Najib a full pardon over his conviction and prison sentence in the SRC International case.
In February the pardons board commuted Najib’s sentence, reducing his 12-year jail term to six years and a RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
Asyraf’s statement confirmed an earlier report by FMT that Umno leaders would be discussing the disputed order.
