PETALING JAYA:
A freelance photographer today claimed trial in the magistrates’ court here to assaulting two fashion designers with a camera during an event held at a hotel on Wednesday.

Imran Khairil, 30, pleaded not guilty after the two charges were read before magistrate Farah Azura Saad, Berita Harian reported.

Imran was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Azmi Abdul Rahman, 47, and Raziman Din, 53, with a dangerous weapon between 8.45pm to 9pm at the ballroom of a hotel at Persiaran Bandar Utama here.

The charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 10 years in jail, a fine, whipping, or any two of these penalties upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Husna Amran proposed that bail be fixed at RM8,000 for each charge, but lawyer Suraj Singh appealed for a lower amount.

Suraj said the accused is a freelance photographer with no fixed income. He recently got married and had to look after his parents.

The magistrate granted bail at RM3,500 for each charge and ordered Imran not to interact with the two victims until the case is disposed of.

Farah fixed Feb 28 for case mention.
