PETALING JAYA:
The authorities have ordered the closure of a nursery in Bandar Saujana Putra, Kuala Langat, where a four-month-old baby boy was believed to have died.

Selangor social welfare department director Azmir Kassim said his department ordered the nursery to close on Tuesday after being informed about the incident by police on Sunday.

“The department went to the nursery on Monday and ordered it to stop operations the following day,” Bernama quoted Azmir as saying.

Kuala Langat police chief Akmalrizal Radzi had said police received a report on Jan 3 about an infant who had been brought to a clinic in Bandar Saujana Putra unconscious by a nursery caregiver.

“The baby was pale with bluish lips and feet and showed no signs of breathing. The complainant, a doctor at the clinic, immediately performed CPR and provided oxygen while waiting for an ambulance to take the baby to Putrajaya Hospital.

“The hospital received the baby at about 4.35pm and continued CPR for over 30 minutes, but there was no response. The baby was pronounced dead at 5.05pm,” he said in a statement.

Akmalrizal said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for child neglect. He said statements had been taken from the nursery’s operator and staff, but no arrests had been made so far.
