PETALING JAYA:
A lorry driver has been charged in the Mersing magistrates’ court in Johor with the murder of a man, whose body was found in a car boot last month.

Hasbullah Adam, 36, was charged before magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction, Harian Metro reported.

Hasbullah is accused of killing Shakirin Mohammad, 28, sometime between Dec 26 and Dec 28 by the side of Jalan Jemaluang-Kahang in Mersing.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty, or up to 40 years in jail and whipping, upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Foo Fang Leong while the accused was represented by lawyer Azlan Bohari. No bail was granted as murder is a non-bailable offence.

The court fixed Feb 27 for case mention.
