Kuching sessions court judge Iris Awen Jon sentenced the man to 20 years in prison and three strokes of the rotan on the first charge of incest under Section 376B(1) of the Penal Code.

The judge sentenced him to another 22 years behind bars and four strokes of the rotan on the second charge of incest, The Borneo Post reported.

He was then sentenced to another 15 years in jail and three strokes of the rotan on the third charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Iris ordered the sentences to run consecutively from his remand date, May 27, 2022.

The judge also ordered the man to go for counselling while in prison and to remain under police monitoring for two years after completing his sentence.

The man had committed the offences at a house in Lundu between 8am and 8pm on Dec 28, 2021.

Case facts show that a social welfare department officer rescued the victim on suspicion that she had been raped by her father. The man was then arrested.

The man is said to have committed the offences on the victim when her mother was away. The victim was forced to undress and have sex with her father for fear of being beaten.

A total of 13 witnesses testified during the trial.

Deputy public prosecutors Ruvinasini Pandian and Nuralisa Natasha Nazrulzam prosecuted while the man was not represented.
