PETALING JAYA:
A 14-year-old girl has been charged at the Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court in Penang with voluntarily causing hurt to her aunt by stabbing her with a knife.

The teenager claimed trial after the charge was read before magistrate Harith Mazlan, Sinar Harian reported.

She is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to her aunt with a knife at a house in Perai at 11.30am on Jan 3.

The charge was framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for up to 10 years in jail, a fine, whipping, or any two of the punishments upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Zulfadzly Hassan suggested that the court allow her to post bail at RM5,000 but her lawyer Muhaimin Hashim sought a lower amount on grounds that she was a child and was still in school.

Harith allowed the girl to post bail at RM3,000 with one surety and ordered her not to approach the victim until the case was disposed of.

He fixed March 20 for the submission of forensic and medical reports.
