Perak’s last flood relief centre closed

PETALING JAYA:
The flood situation in Perak has eased after the last temporary relief centre was closed this afternoon.

The remaining 307 victims from 59 families, who had been sheltering at the Dewan Kampung Asli Chinggong relief centre in Kampung Chinggong, Muallim, were allowed to return home, Bernama reported.

The families had been taking shelter at the relief centre since Dec 31.

In Johor, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 27 as of 8pm, compared with 69 this morning, following the closure of the relief centre at SK Gembut.

State disaster management committee chairman Azmi Rohani said only one relief centre – at the Kampung Perpat community hall in Kota Tinggi – remains operational.

In Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees at the SK Gual Tok Deh relief centre in Rantau Panjang dropped slightly to 36 tonight, down from 38 this morning.

Meanwhile, the irrigation and drainage department’s public Infobanjir portal reported that Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang remains at the warning level of 8m as of 7.45pm.
