The commission said the government had agreed to appoint Shamsul to the post.
Shamsul takes over the post from former Gamuda Bhd deputy managing director Rashdan Yusof, who reportedly stepped down as the commission’s chairman several months ago.
It is not immediately clear when exactly Rashdan left the job. He was replaced by Razif Abd Mubin who served as interim chairman.
“Shamsul, 55, has over 30 years of experience in public service, and served in various roles in multiple agencies, including the finance ministry, public services department and public-private partnership unit,” the commission said in a statement.
Rashdan’s appointment as Energy Commission chairman in February 2023 was criticised by anti-graft groups as well as industry players and businesses as he still held his senior Gamuda post.
He resigned as the deputy managing director of Gamuda two months later. He had been in the position since May 2018.
