PETALING JAYA:
A worker at an ice factory has pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ court in Kuala Berang to two counts of possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Affandi Azi, 33, was accused of committing the offences at a house in Kampung Batangan in Marang, Terengganu, at 8.50pm last Monday, Bernama reported.

The charge was framed under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for the possession of CSAM, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of not more than RM10,000, or both upon conviction.

Affandi was also charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the possession of obscene materials, punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhasnita Tuan Nordin asked for bail to be set at RM12,000 for both charges.

However, Affandi, who was unrepresented, appealed for a lower amount citing financial constraints and the responsibility of supporting a wife.

Magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli fixed bail at RM8,000 with one surety and set Jan 15 for sentencing.
