PETALING JAYA:
A total of 314 people have been evacuated from their homes after Kelantan and Terengganu were hit by floods again today.

Some 202 evacuees from 64 families in Kelantan have been relocated to 10 evacuation centres, according to the welfare department’s InfoBencana portal. The victims are all located in Tanah Merah.

In Terengganu, four relief centres have been opened to house 112 flood victims from 37 families in Hulu Terengganu.

The floods are said to have been caused by continuous heavy rain in the east coast of the peninsula. This is the third time in over a month that parts of Kelantan and Terengganu have been hit by floods.

The two states were the worst-hit by monsoonal flooding in late November to early December, which was said to be the worst in a decade and led to over 150,000 people being evacuated from their homes.

Separately, flooding was reported in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, this afternoon after a water retention bund near Taman Seri Alam in Saujana Utama broke. This led to floodwaters of 30cm high.

The Selangor fire and rescue department evacuated residents in the area but the flood quickly receded, Bernama reported. No relief centres have been opened there.
