The national police’s profession and security division head, Inspector-General Abdul Karim, said they had seized evidence totalling 2.5 billion rupiahs (RM717,000), Bernama reported.

Malaysians had lodged two official complaints, he said at a press conference broadcast live by Metro TV.

Their identities would be protected throughout the investigation, he added.

Karim said the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) was monitoring the case closely to ensure transparency and fairness in the investigation.

He said police would take firm action against anyone breaking the law.

On Saturday, Indonesian police had detained 18 of their personnel for allegedly extorting money from Malaysians at the three-day DWP concert in Kemayoran, North Jakarta, which ended on Dec 15.

This is one of Asia’s largest electronic music festivals.

Tourism minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana praised the police for their quick action in investigating the alleged extortion of tourists during the concert.

She also apologised for the inconvenience and impact caused by this incident.

The Malaysians had claimed they were forced to undergo urine tests, asked to show their passports and pressured to pay money even though their drug test results returned negative.
