
In a Facebook post, Anwar said as a diverse nation with a rich tapestry of races and cultures, major celebrations such as Christmas remained a cornerstone of strength and unity among Malaysians.
“Therefore, any attempt to sow seeds of discord or incite racial conflict must be avoided, as we depend on and complement one another, especially in the shared endeavour to build a successful and distinguished national identity,” he said.
He stressed that Malaysia must remain steadfast and not be hindered by the agendas of a few.
“(It) must instead uphold universal values and principles of justice. These should inspire us to fulfill the grand vision and aspirations of our founding fathers, who sought to position this nation at the forefront of progress, dignity and hope,” he added.
“Merry Christmas to all Christians. Take the time to be with your loved ones on this special day and spread the love,” he said.
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his wish for unity to flourish across the nation, urging Malaysians to come together to celebrate the shared values and embrace the beauty of the country’s diversity.
“May this season of joy bring us closer together as one family…Let us nurture the spirit of togetherness to strengthen our bonds and work hand in hand towards building a brighter and more prosperous future for Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post.
Another deputy prime minister, Fadillah Yusof, highlighted the importance of peace, love, and respect among all communities in Malaysia.
“This is a time to reflect on the beauty of togetherness and the strength of our unity. Let’s continue to embrace our rich diversity with open hearts and create a Malaysia where peace and understanding shine brighter than ever,” he said.
