Cops nab man over robbery with slingshot

Police have arrested a 34-year-old man to assist in investigations into a viral video showing two suspects breaking into a convenience store in Kota Belud, Sabah, armed with slingshots.

Kota Belud police chief Shahrudin Mat Husain said the 59-second video showed two men, both wearing helmets and armed with slingshots, breaking into the store.

He said initial investigations found that the incident occurred at 4am last Wednesday.

“The two men managed to steal some money from the cash drawer.

“A scuffle broke out between the suspects and the victim, but no serious injuries were reported,” Shahrudin said in a statement.

He said the suspect was arrested to assist in investigations opened under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and Section 397 for robbery involving a weapon or causing grievous hurt during the act.

Shahrudin urged those with information on the case to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting the Kota Belud police headquarters or investigating officer Izhafizan Haron at 014-6318003.
