Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that Wan Azri was released after providing his statement, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“So far, 16 people have had their statements recorded to assist in the investigation,” he was quoted as saying.
“Investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code (for cheating).”
Wan Azri’s lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali was also reported to have said that eight police officers arrived at his client’s home at around 1.30am yesterday to make the arrest.
He said Wan Azri is being investigated by Bukit Aman for alleged cheating and for breaching the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla).
It is believed that the investigation concerns a report lodged by a minister in July.
