PETALING JAYA:
Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said he will remain in the state until the end of his term, amid rumours that he would be replaced by Tengku Zafrul Aziz of Umno and be made a federal minister.

In a brief statement, Amirudin said: “As advised by the sultan of Selangor, who has allowed me to share it with all, I will remain in Selangor to ensure economic stability and the stability of the unity government.”

Amirudin, who is serving his second term as menteri besar, said there has been speculation about his position that has gone viral in the past two to three days.

His statement did not specify what speculation prompted his response. However, accounts of his possible replacement by Tengku Zafrul, and of him becoming a federal minister, have been prominent in social media and other reports.

Earlier today, Amiruddin said there would be no changes in his administration.

Speaking at the state Christmas open house, he said that stability was vital for the state government to continue what it started, including drafting the Second Selangor Plan expected to be ready in 2026, The Star reported.

“Selangor’s economy will be affected and the people’s attention will be shifted from these important efforts when instability occurs,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier today, an X account of the “Keluar Sekejap” podcast by former Umno leaders Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan said Tengku Zafrul was set to replace Amirudin as menteri besar.

Citing a source, the account said the change would take place as Tengku Zafrul’s term as a senator was drawing to an end, which meant he would not be able to continue as a minister. He is currently the minister of investment, trade and industry.

The report also claimed that Amirudin would be appointed as a minister as he is a PKR vice-president.

Speculation about Tengku Zafrul replacing Amirudin comes in the wake of news that Tengku Zafrul is negotiating a move to PKR, with a decision expected within “the next two days”.

Earlier today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he has not received any official notification from Tengku Zafrul, a Supreme Council member, about his plans to leave the party and join PKR.

However, he criticised Umno members who put personal interest ahead of loyalty to the party.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said there has been no application from Tengku Zafrul to join the party. She said anyone, including Tengku Zafrul, wishing to join PKR must apply online.
