IPOH:
The High Court here was told today no brake marks were found at the scene where senior police officer Nazri Abdul Razak collided with student Zaharif Affendi Zamrie riding a motorcycle on Dec 15 last year.

Jong Pit Chao, 37, a former traffic investigation officer at the Ipoh police headquarters, said he also noted the presence of drag marks resembling black fabric tears, vehicle component debris, fragments of the motorcycle’s rear licence plate and items such as pencils, scissors, a glue bottle, a silver bracelet and traces of blue ink at the scene.

“I sketched a rough diagram and instructed Shahiran Mohamad to take photographs of the location,” he said.

Jong, 37, the 29th prosecution witness, was testifying at the trial of Nazri, 45, who is charged with murdering Zaharif, 17.

He said that following the autopsy of the victim, he conducted an interview and investigation of Nazri, who holds the rank of deputy superintendent, before arresting him.

“After Nazri’s arrest, I conducted further procedures, including a urine screening test for dangerous drugs. His urine tested negative and was free of drugs,” he said.

Earlier, the 28th prosecution witness, Noor Azlan Zaidin, 38, testified that the closed-circuit television footage presented as evidence at the trial had not been edited.

He made the statement during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, who asked whether the CCTV footage had been edited in the course of the investigation.

Noor Azlan said he had received the CCTV footage, dated Dec 15, 2023, from a P Abraham five days later.

Nazri is charged with the murder of Zaharif on Jalan Taman Jati 1 near SMK Jati here between 11.45am and 12.32pm on Dec 15, 2023.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The prosecution is being conducted by Afzainizam, Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, V Suloshani and Low Qin Hui.

Nazri is represented by lawyers M Athimulan, Mior Faridalathrash Wahid and Aiman Hakim Kamaruzzaman, while lawyer Syaheera Rosli is holding a watching brief for Zaharif’s family.
