2.7-magnitude earthquake hits Tawau

The meteorological department says the earthquake happened at 4.54am.

The meteorological department says the earthquake occurred approximately 17km north of Tawau.

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 struck Tawau, Sabah, at 4.54am, the meteorological department (MetMalaysia) said today.

MetMalaysia said the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 4.5°N and 118.1°E with a depth of 10km.

“The earthquake occurred approximately 17km north of Tawau. Tremors were felt around the Tawau area,” it added.
