Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the man was detained at around 11pm the same day after being brought to the Shah Alam police headquarters by the vehicle’s owner to assist in the investigation, Bernama reported.
Iqbal said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident, which went viral on social media, occurred at approximately 4.40pm.
He said that the ambulance, travelling along the Federal Highway towards Klang, had been dangerously followed by a car and a motorcycle.
“Initial findings show that the car was loaned to the suspect by its owner. We visited the car owner’s house, and he later came to the Shah Alam police headquarters with the 28-year-old suspect,” he said in a statement today.
Iqbal said checks revealed that the suspect was not a family member of the patient being transported in the ambulance.
Police are also tracking down the motorcyclist involved in the same incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Iqbal advised road users to give way to emergency vehicles and avoid tailgating them to prevent risk to themselves and others.
The viral video showed a white Honda Civic and a Yamaha MT-15 motorcycle tailgating the ambulance while flashing their hazard lights on the Federal Highway.
