
When asked if such a law would go against freedom of assembly or association, he said there was “no absolute freedom”.
“There is no absolute freedom.
“If you want total freedom, there must be good results. When you find that freedom destroys a society, you have to think about limits to freedom,” he said at a press conference after delivering his keynote speech at the International Wellness Expo 2024 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre today.
He was reported as saying yesterday that a two-party system would prevent a repeat of the political instability seen in the last general election, which resulted in a hung Parliament.
Mahathir said the current political landscape, characterised by fragmented parties and splinter groups, had weakened the ability of any single party to form a stable government.
He said the 15th general election saw no single party able to secure a clear mandate from the voters, and suggested that Malaysia take inspiration from countries like the UK and US which have two dominant political parties.
