Bukit Aman probes lecturer for allegedly insulting prophet

A lecturer at a public university is being investigated by police for allegedly insulting the Prophet Muhammad and Islam.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said a police report was lodged against the academic at 9.48pm yesterday after the complainant came across the suspect’s Facebook post on the matter.

He said the post in question showed the suspect making statements that allegedly insult the prophet at an event, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Razarudin said the suspect also made a tasteless joke about the prophet and his wife, Aisyah, and did a portrayal of the prophet while making cynical statements.

The case is being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities and Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony on grounds of religion.
