Umno, state chapter seek to settle SRC’s RM19.5mil lawsuit

Umno's lawyer informs the High Court they are working extensively on a settlement with SRC International and the subsidiaries.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court granted an application by the defendants for an adjournment of the hearings scheduled for today and tomorrow.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Umno and its Selangor chapter are seeking to settle the lawsuit filed against them by SRC International and two others for allegedly receiving RM19.5 million in funds originating from the company nine years ago.

Lawyer Shahrul Fazli Kamarulzaman, appearing for Umno, informed Justice Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan that they were “working extensively” in exploring a settlement with SRC International.

“We hope the court can vacate the hearing for today and tomorrow,” he added.

Lawyer Hasnal Rezua Merican, representing Selangor Umno, said he supported Shahrul’s bid to vacate the hearing.

SRC International’s lawyer Razlan Hadri Zulkifli said they were open to settling the case with both Umno and Selangor Umno.

Mohzanuddin then allowed the defendants’ request for an adjournment of the hearings scheduled for today and Tuesday.

“Or else, we have to proceed (on Wednesday),” he added.

SRC International and two subsidiaries, (Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd, Jendela Pinggiran Sdn Bhd), filed a lawsuit to recover RM16 million and RM3.5 million from Umno and Selangor Umno respectively.

They claimed both entities received the RM19.5 million between April and June 2015, adding that they knowingly received the funds when they had no basis to do so.
